Newen to Take OURO Global at MIPCOM

PARIS: Newen Distribution’s drama slate for MIPCOM is led by the adventure thriller series OURO, a Canal+ original.

Selected as one of the MIPCOM International Drama Screenings, OURO is a modern-day adventure series about a French geology student on the trail of gold in the Amazon jungle. The eight-part series is created by Fabien Nury, directed by Kim Chapiron and produced by Mascaret Films.

Further drama highlights on the Newen slate include Beyond the Walls, centered on a young woman who gets trapped in a mysterious house she inherited; the medical drama Nina, which is returning for a second season of ten episodes; Candice Renoir, the hit police series that’s back with a fourth season; and Witnesses, featuring Audrey Fleurot.

The company is also showcasing the big-budget documentary Terror Studios, which investigates how ISIS is using pop-culture codes in their propaganda. “OURO and Terror Studios are both Canal+ originals that are coming out after the worldwide successes of Spiral, The Returned and Versailles,” says Julien Leroux, Newen’s deputy managing director. “International audiences know what quality they can expect.”

Leroux adds that the company is also looking forward to speaking with international buyers about the celebrity-based unscripted format Truth or Dare, which currently airs on TF1 in France. Other format highlights include On Fire, which was piloted by TF1; Cash Vault, in which contestants must choose whether or not to risk entering a cash vault which they may lose; and Harry, a game show that is celebrating its 1,000th episode on France 3. 

With regard to kids’ programs, Newen’s lineup features The Mysterious Cities of Goldwhich is set in Japan, India and the Middle East; Polo, an animated preschool title; and the game-show format Tahiti Quest, targeted to families.
