Netflix has ordered the new limited series Madam C.J. Walker, starring and executive produced by Octavia Spencer, among other projects.

Madam C.J. Walker will feature the story of the eponymous black hair care pioneer and mogul and how she overcame hostile turn-of-the-century America, epic rivalries, tumultuous marriages and some trifling family to become America’s first black, self-made female millionaire. It is based on the book On Her Own Ground by A’Lelia Bundles.

Also coming to Netflix is the new series White Lines from the producers of The Crown and La Casa de Papel. When the body of a legendary Manchester DJ is discovered 20 years after his mysterious disappearance from Ibiza, his sister returns to the beautiful Spanish island to find out what happened. Alex Pina (La Casa de Papel) is serving as writer/showrunner.

The limited series Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, will launch on September 21, while Ozark season two launches globally on Netflix on August 31.

Regarding unscripted series, Netflix has ordered Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, based on Samin Nosrat’s James Beard Award-winning book. Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat is the essential guide to the basic elements of good cooking. Directed by Caroline Suh, the four-part series joins Nosrat as she travels to home kitchens of Italy, the southern islands of Japan, the heat of the Yucatán and back to Berkeley’s Chez Panisse.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell features baker and artist Christine McConnell as she welcomes viewers into her terrifyingly delicious home. In every episode, she bakes, sculpts and sews to create delectable confections and hauntingly disturbing decor with the help of her colorful collection of creatures.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will launch on October 26, The Kominsky Method is set to premiere on November 16, and Chef’s Table season five will debut on September 28.
