NCIS Again Named Most-Watched Drama in the World

NCIS has once again claimed the distinction of being the most-watched drama TV series in the world, according to Eurodata TV Worldwide.

The hit CBS series, which ranks as the number one drama on U.S. television for the eighth consecutive year, received the International Television Audience Award at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival for a drama TV series. NCIS has now won the award three out of the last four years. The series garnered more than 47 million viewers worldwide in 2016.

For comedy, the International TV Audience Award went to The Big Bang Theory, which notched up 39.8 million viewers worldwide last year. The Bold and the Beautiful won for telenovela/soap opera, with 13.1 million viewers worldwide.

The winners of the 12th International TV Audience Awards were presented at the 57th Golden Nymph Awards Ceremony at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

The Golden Nymph Awards saw the British series Fleabag and Victoria take home some of the top honors. Fleabag won for best comedy TV series and the show’s lead, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, won for outstanding actress in a comedy. The outstanding actor in the comedy category was Michel Jonasz for Lebowitz vs Lebowitz. Victoria was named best drama, with Jenna Coleman scoring the win for outstanding actress for her performance in the series. Aksel Hennie was recognized in the best actor category for drama for his role in Nobel.

The award for best long fiction program went to Don’t Leave Me, while Anna Maria Mühe won for best actress in the category for NSU German History X and Robbie Coltrane for best actor for National Treasure.

Dugma: The Button won for best documentary. The grand jury prize in the news category went to Saudi Arabia Uncovered.

CNN’s Midway: A Plastic Island was awarded the Prince Rainier III Special Prize. Reel Time: Forgotten Children of the Waves, from GMA Network in the Philippines, received the AMADE Prize. Aquarius, Rescue in Deadly Waters was recognized with the International Committee of the Red Cross Prize. Part of Us was the winner of the SIGNIS Prize as well as the Monaco Red Cross Prize. Out of Sight took home the PeaceJam Prize.
