Video: The Long Road Home’s Martha Raddatz & Carolyn Bernstein

Martha Raddatz, author of The Long Road Home, and Carolyn Bernstein, the executive VP and head of global scripted development and production at National Geographic, spoke to World Screen’s Anna Carugati about the TV adaptation of Raddatz’s book, the process of re-creating Sadr City, Baghdad, and the importance of telling this story, particularly given today’s political environment.

Raddatz, who is also the chief global affairs correspondent at ABC News, worked with National Geographic to adapt her book for the small screen and tell the stories of these soldiers and their families. The first episode of the highly anticipated National Geographic miniseries The Long Road Home debuted on Tuesday. Based on Martha Raddatz’s best-selling book, The Long Road Home relives a heroic fight for survival when a platoon from Fort Hood was ambushed on April 4, 2004 in Baghdad—a day that came to be known as Black Sunday. The cast includes Michael Kelly, Jason Ritter, Kate Bosworth, Sarah Wayne Callies, Noel Fisher and Jeremy Sisto.
