CANNES/TORONTO: 108 Media has secured global rights to live broadcasts of Kyokushin karate, a specialized Japanese form of martial arts.

The deal marks the first acquisition of its kind for 108 Media, which inked the deal through its 108 Asia arm. The agreement includes access to pending live matches, as well as archived content, which will all be available to international buyers at MIPCOM.

Ryo Ebe, the managing director of 108 Asia, commented, “It’s with great honor we take the live programming of Kyokushin karate to broadcasters outside of Japan. The sport has a deep-rooted history in Japan and is widely practiced and highly respected by a large community. As karate has become an official sport of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, we believe more audiences around the globe will enjoy its art, discipline and strength.”
